Elderly couple Miguel and Ada Rojas were overcome with emotion when they received a puppy as a gift after a heartbreaking tragedy in which their former dog died and two ended up in hospital.
Last week, a Florida couple were walking with their beloved 3-year-old Chihuahua named Gucci when two homeless American Bulldogs attacked Gucci and killed him.
Miguel, 89, was hospitalized with high blood pressure and Ada, 83, received 100 stitches from aggressive dogs. Both dogs are now in the care of the local animal control service.
Heartbroken, the couple were surprised with a new puppy this week after a family friend and dog breeder agreed to donate a dog to the couple.
Rojas’ daughter, also called Ada, brought a nine-week-old puppy to her parents and they cried when they saw the puppy.
Miguel sobbed as the little pup was placed in his arms and said he was “happy and sad”.
His wife said the new dog would help the couple “move on”.
“I was numb with happiness and pain,” her daughter Ada said as she watched her parents embrace their new lover. Dogs are part of the family. They are not animals. They are part of the family.
She is incredibly happy that her parents have a new puppy that will bring them unconditional love.
