House fires have always been one of my biggest fears. Even though I’ve never experienced one myself, I constantly check the stove, candles, and dryer vents for lint multiple times.
But a recent Facebook post by Jason Whitaker from Kentucky revealed a fire risk I had never considered.
Jason shared that he constantly smelled something similar to an electrical fire and nearly tore his house apart to find the source.
Finally, he discovered that the smell came from a fluorescent spiral light bulb.
Inside the bulb’s spiral coils were ladybugs attracted to the light and heat, which had gathered in such numbers that they almost ignited.
“There was nothing but ladybugs inside the spiral coils of the bulb,” Jason explained. His photos showed the potential danger, with the accumulation of ladybugs nearly catching fire due to the bulb’s heat.
If you use fluorescent spiral light bulbs in your fixtures or lamps, make sure to check them regularly for insects trying to warm themselves inside.
Jason’s experience highlights a simple check that can prevent a house fire.
“I found it important to share Jason’s post with all of you,” he added, “as this is a potential fire risk I would never have known about.”
Regular inspection of these light bulbs can help you avoid a dangerous situation and keep your home safe from unexpected fire hazards.
