Doug Hayes was a 59-year-old Gladstone, Oregon resident. He was a proud grandfather to his ten kids.
The family had made it a point to spend time with them and have a good time during the holidays ever since the birth of his first grandchild.
Presents, of course, were one of the highlights that the grandchildren eagerly anticipated each year. However, they were in for a big surprise this year.
Doug decided to give his grandchildren, Amara (10), Christian (9), Autumn (8), Lily (8), Gabriel (6), Everett (4), Piper (4), Emma (4), Hero (2), and Teddy (2), a “unique gift.”
This time around, during the holiday season, the “Best Granddad” wanted to act in a different way for the little ones. She was going to get a hot air balloon, according to one of his grandchildren.
However, all of the grandchildren quickly realized that it was a school bus bearing the label “Grandpa Express.” The news thrilled everyone.
“You got a bus,” the youngest grandchild told the family member. The devoted grandfather had purchased a bus to transport all of his grandchildren to school.
Doug stated, “I thought that maybe there was some way that I could give them a memory that will last all their lives” while speaking to one of the news channels.
The ten students attended a small Christian school without school buses. So, the kids were pretty excited when they saw their grandfather driving one.
One of the grandchildren revealed to the news station that he was astonished and had no idea his grandfather had purchased a bus.
While the younger granddaughter, a young girl, told the reporter, “It was fun.” The youngsters couldn’t wait to get on their brand-new “school bus.” They were all waiting for the first bus to take them to school.
Doug was of the opinion that the children would never forget the special memories they would make with this gift.
Doug was fortunate in that each of the ten children lived within a 20-mile drive of his house, and their school was only two or three miles away.
As a result, it was simple for him to drive the kids to school each day before he went to work.
